I will never forget the time a good friend of mine called to tell me that she caught her little boy hanging from their dining room chandelier. As a new mom I thought that this was hilarious since it wasn’t mine I caught swinging like Tarzan. Six years of mommy hood later, I have found my kids climbing all sorts of objects from dressers to trees and everything in between.
Well it is reassuring to know that kids develop strength, motor skills, vestibular senses, confidence, and creativity when climbing (http://www.countrysideplaystructures.com/2013/08/why-children-climb/). So if you’re like me and encourage climbing in safe places you will be excited to hear that Salem is getting a brand new kid friendly rock gym (tentatively opening late spring).
The gym will include a kid specific area with lower walls and more holds. The holds will include letter shapes and dragon holds! The gym will be a bouldering gym that won't require kids to have any equipment at all, so they can climb all day!
