I’m going to be honest, I struggle to get vegetables into my children. It’s not so much that they refuse to eat them, it’s more because I need the simplest version to put on their plate. By the time we all get home in the evening, it becomes a matter of survival to get everyone fed and spend quality time with each of them before bed.

I had a bit of an awakening last week when my 6-year-old ordered steamed broccoli instead of fries with her restaurant meal. I didn’t even realize she liked that broccoli that much! I realized that I’m not providing enough opportunities for them to sample vegetables and stretch them to try new things. The same ol’ meals have just become a thing.

Birds Eye provided products to sample in exchange for my honest opinion on their product. It became the perfect opportunity to involve my kids in making more nutritious choices during dinner. They chose to add Birds Eye Veggie Made™ Cauliflower Fries and Broccoli Fries to our meal this evening.

With my 6-year-old’s help, we placed them in the oven for the short baking time needed and then added them to our plates. Because some of us are at an age where ketchup is an important part of every meal, we added that, too.

I expected the first bites to be a bit hesitant. But, apparently, if you refer to anything as FRIES, they become safe to take a giant bite of! Birds Eye Veggie Made™ Broccoli Fries quickly became a family favorite! With a full serving of vegetables in each serving of fries, I loved seeing my 6-year-old steal a few extra from her brother’s plate.

I personally preferred the Birds Eye Veggie Made™ Cauliflower Fries. Made with cauliflower, potato and onion, I appreciated the flavor AND the fact that I was actually putting vegetables into my body. (Birds Eye Veggie Made™ Cauliflower and Ranch Fries are definitely next on my list to try!)
