If you tuned in last week, you read that my husband and I decided to complete a partial fast with our church and saw many benefits physically and spiritually in just one week. Read about it here if you missed it! Week 2 brought new challenges but also new recipes and new opportunities to have self-control and discipline.
Temptation

We were tempted way more this week! Someone decided to make bacon, and not just a little bit but an entire tray! I wish I had a mask to shield how delicious it smelled. Someone also decided that this was the week to drink coffee and oh, how I miss it! I can honestly say that I had to go to the room and pray for strength. These incidents seem small, but when you cut these things out cold turkey and you enjoy them, they become significant. I’m glad I had my husband for solidarity! If you decide to try this, get yourself an accountability partner!
Week 2 Highlights
I heavily relied on our meal box site for meals this week just for lack of time and planning, which is important if the meals are new to you! (Use special code VDMUD1RA to get $50 off a delivery of $100+ if you are interested) The meal below included tofu, baby broccoli, and black lentils (semi-mashed). I added sweet potato and avocado for a fuller bowl.

Here are some results from the second week!
Physical:
- 3 more pounds lost (with little to no exercise)
- No bloating! Little to no gas
- More sustaining energy throughout the day. Better focus!
- Less facial skin inflammation (Hurray!)
- Less SWEATING and body odor!
- Less sleep, difficulty going to sleep (more alert) and waking up before 5 a.m. alarm
Spiritual:
- Engaged in corporal prayer 3 times with our church; deeper and longer prayer
- Continued discipline with prayer and reading the Bible independently every day
- More communication with God in the small details (tasks to do, things to say, etc.)
- Encouraged to persevere and deny cravings through prayer
- A stronger sense of faith. I don’t know how to explain that one. Just more confident.
This past week had its challenges from lack of planning and food temptations. However, having my accountability partner and relying on prayer made the difference! I know not everyone who reads this is a Christian and that is just fine. However, I hope you can be encouraged to step out and try something like this even if it is one meal at a time!
